Message Search is broken

Steps to reproduce

Search has been broken for a while for me in Element Nightly. I went to Settings > Security & Privacy (odd for message search?), and was greeted with a

Error opening the database: DatabaseUnlockError("Invalid passphrase")

I was offered to Reset the event store. After clicking the button in the modal to confirm, I'm not sure something really happened, and I still have the same message

What did you expect?

I exepected the broken thing to be reset and search to work

What happened instead?

Nothing happened at all

I had this too, for month before a element update let crash the whole element when trying to use message search #691

still an issue - I'm on windows and get only "Unbekannter Fehler" (unknown error) see #1787 only the log shows that there is something wrong with the database credentials.

Has someone a workaround for this issue?

sign out and sign it didn't help

therefore I've

• signed out
• closed element
• renamed %APPDATA%\Element
• started element
• sign in

currently element is indexing my rooms...

I hope that the renamed directory does not contain any important data 🤔

You really only need to delete the EventStore folder in Element appdata, I have done this a few times with no side effect

I don't know why the app can't do it though
