  • Operating System (Linux/Mac/Windows/iOS/Android): Arch Linux
  • Delta Chat Version: 1.46.8-1 (desktop-app) / deltachat/deltachat-desktop@cab5c42
  • Delta Chat Android Version: 1.50.5 (F-Droid) (used to create the account and qr code)
  • Expected behavior: No error
  • Actual behavior: 0.5s [E]core/event: 1 Failed to start IO: Invalid configured_imap_certificate_checks value
  • Steps i did to produce the problem: I installed it and imported an account from my phone in the desktop app. CHats got synced, but the desktop client can't connect to the server.
  • Screenshots: Image Image
  • Logs:

~/.config/DeltaChat/accounts/<uuid>/dc.db contains the config table:

Image

After setting configured_imap_certificate_checks and configured_smtp_certificate_checks to 0 it complains about:
0.5s [E]core/event: 1 Failed to start IO: Incomplete IMAP connection parameters

it doesn't give me any indication to what is wrong. And having to manually modify a sqlite db is kinda bad ux. Is there documenation that would make that easier?

Going to Settings -> Advanced -> Server > Password and Account -> + Advanced and changing stuff and saving that fixed it.

@Joshix-1 Thank you for your report. Since the release of version 1.46.8, there have been a lot of changes, so importing a backup from a far newer version might not be successful anyway. (The current Desktop version is 1.52.0, BTW.)

Closing here. Have fun with Delta Chat! :)

This is also a duplicate of #2294

The current Desktop version is 1.52.0

That wasn't available when I opened the issue. I tried it also on the then latest commit (deltachat/deltachat-desktop@cab5c42). So I tried on the latest Desktop and Android versions.

importing a backup from a far newer version might not be successful anyway.

https://delta.chat/en/help#multiclient doesn't mention that both devices should use the same version.

This is also a duplicate of #2294

That issue is closed.

Have fun with Delta Chat!

I will, but that is just bad UX. I wouldn't fault anyone for giving up after that experience. DeltaChat should either not import the backup or try to fix the config. Failing with a cryptic error message really sucks.
The user will have no idea what's wrong.
