figure out how to incorporate scales basics

Right now, we're using the scales reading.

The book doesn't mention this, but we talk about more advanced scales.

We should either incorporate the scales reading by linking to R4DS or add a section explaining scales basics. Each chapter is already pretty long, so maybe this could be a mini chapter.
