Are page links supposed to show up automatically in the header?

This seems like a silly question...but are page links supposed to show up in the header automatically? I have an index.html using the home layout and then an about.md using the page layout—but when I run the site locally, there is no text in the header that links to the about page.

Please feel free to delete this, as I hadn't realized that this theme is not supported by GH Pages. Apologies!
