Brief

The Sustainability Software PAL will consolidate all common components and patterns into Carbon for IBM Products to encourage reuse of our established assets and closer align our experiences across IBM Software. Sustainability Software will no longer maintain a separate PAL and instead will work with the DSAG, DSIT and Carbon team to create and contribute reusable components and patterns.

Approach

  • Low hanging fruit components and patterns move over to Carbon for Products first
  • Assets are net new to Carbon for Products β€”Β no need for deduplication
  • For any assets with code, we will deliver a v11 version of them.
  • Create redirects from Sustainability site to Product PAL or Core
  • Code in the Sustainability storybook will not be touched as that will remain in v10
  • Figma components will not be touched as those will remain in v10
  • @dianasanborn will take point on all design assets.

Update: I've gotten as far as doing the research audit and consolidating the SSW time picker guidance along with Carbon's time picker guidance (currently consolidated in with the date picker).

Time picker research audit: https://app.mural.co/t/ibm14/m/ibm14/1719246796516/2dbdca32199b197a6fa66526bab85d07d25f053f?sender=u694a0e36bc53b55d95290142

Usage docs draft 1 (scrubbing through SSW guidance): https://www.figma.com/design/CtxMZE9hcDJeU3QBRMk5QW/SSW-PAL-%26-Carbon-consolidation?node-id=26-14&t=DznwVN8FzVpq9x3i-11

Usage docs draft 2 (consolidating SSW's time picker guidance + Carbon's time picker guidance): https://ibm.box.com/s/e1jfgcp0as0q02u63lvsicb2918sm3bp
Note: This has been reviewed with Anna and Lauren once before but should be reviewed again since it's been a while!

Figma components (in v10 still): https://www.figma.com/design/CtxMZE9hcDJeU3QBRMk5QW/SSW-PAL-%26-Carbon-consolidation?node-id=187-4270&t=DznwVN8FzVpq9x3i-11

Still remaining:

  • Create/update images for usage docs
  • Updated style docs in v11
  • Accessibility docs
  • Figma kit components in v11
  • React implementation
  • Web Component implementation
