It might be nice to have an option for the tool to randomly generate an NCC number, based on year in service. Notable canon or beta canon numbers would naturally be excluded.
Edit: I guess it should be based on the spaceframe, not the year in service that is typed in.

Commit 3912068 implements a very preliminary version of a random registry number generator. The Utopia Planitia book has some more rules about registry numbers, which I'll look in to supporting as part of the Utopia Planitia changes.

So I just looked, and it appears that those rules are mostly noted by class, except for the general notes about number ranges by century... although several classes don't have any guidance, and a few, in trying to accomodate canon registry oddities, seem to make the whole thing moot:
While most Nebula-class vessels have registries in the 60000+ range, some of these vessels have very low numbers that were reserved for shipyards that built few vessels.
