individual dataset colors have been disabled because so far they serve no real purpose (except looking prettier than a gray scale)

what kind of information could be encoded in hue (and be somewhat comprehensible when looked at?)

If colors are going to convey exclusive information, you should consider testing them against a color blindness simulator. Because of the canvas' toughness in regards to accessibility, other visual impairments may not apply.
