WordPress 6.3 Beta 1 postponed
The WordPress 6.3 Beta 1 is postponed until 2023-06-28 17:00 UTC due to an unexpected error found during the testing phase of the release part, as styles in wp-admin are not loading unless SCRIPT_DEBUG is set to true.
Some improvements for WordPress 6.3 (related to hosting / performance / security):

Recap of the Contributor Working Group’s Mentorship Chat
Launch your WordPress Contributor Journey through the Mentorship Program Pilot

Next Generation of WordPress Events: Updates
The #community-team is pleased to share progress on the Next Generation of WordPress Events. They had 64 ideas, 59 organizers interested in follow-ups, and 8 pilot events confirmed, 6 of which will happen in 2023.
To give you a taste, these events include a Low-cost WordCamp in Leipzig, a WordPress Day aimed at attracting new contributors in Sevilla, and a Community Day for WordPress organizers in Roma. Each event is specially designed with unique objectives and audiences in mind.

This channel changed from #hosting-community to #hosting to reflect with our team name.
If you find any mentions of #hosting-community please let us know, so we can update the links and mentions.
🔢 ··· Odd MySQL/MariaDB Data on stats page ···
Odd data for the MySQL/MariaDB versions on WordPress.org stats
Telemetry / Stats: Send the raw DB version identifier, and/or server type
On the WordPress.org stats page (https://wordpress.org/about/stats/) the data seems incongruent.
Some databases have been considered (like MySQL, MariaDB, Percona DB, SQL Server, Postgresql...) but none checks with version 9.6.x.
🪣 ··· MariaDB 10.3 EOL ···
MariaDB 10.3 EOL - Requirements page update
MariaDB 10.3 EOL - Requirements page update
The WordPress Hosting Handbook recommends at least MariaDB 10.4, and it will be updated soon at WordPress requirements Page.
:php: ··· Criteria for Removing "Beta Support" from PHP 8.x ···
Proposal: Criteria for Removing “Beta Support” from Each PHP 8+ Version
The scope and goals of this proposal are:
One of the criteria is how many sites are using an specific PHP version, so, in this case, the Hosting Team, with help from hesters, will be updating the Hosting Handbook according with Hosting criteria and not Core/Software criteria, having in mind the maximum compatibility including Core, Plugins, and Themes.
Tentatively, when WordPress 6.3 arrives, the recommended (Hosting Team) version will be maintained as PHP 8.1.
:php: ··· New WP_DEVELOPMENT_MODE constant ···
Introduce WP_DEVELOPMENT_MODE constant to signify context-specific development mode
This changeset introduces a WP_DEVELOPMENT_MODE constant which, for now, can be set to either "core", "plugin", "theme", or an empty string, the latter of which means no development mode, which is also the default. A new function wp_get_development_mode() is the recommended way to retrieve that configuration value.
🗓️ ··· Upcoming Hosting Contributor Day ···
Heads up, some events are coming down the pipeline along with some Contributor Days to participate in:
Is anyone going to a WordCamp and wants to lead a Hosting Table?
Great, so just a look at our projects.
Hosting Team Projects
📕 ··· Advanced Administration Handbook ···
Currently, everything pending to do is in the Issues part. A lot of "documentation + enhancement" tickets, and also some "documentation + good first issue" for Contributor Day and for first arrivers.
☁️ ··· Host Test Runners ···
The idea behind the distributed hosting tests is to run WordPress' automated test suite across a variety of hosting environments, to help verify that changes on WordPress don't unintentionally affect hosts, and to help hosts be aware of how changes on WordPress or their environments affect how WordPress runs on their services.
If your host isn't included, don't worry, you can still help! You can just follow the instructions on the website to add your host to the database. It's quick and easy, and you'll be helping other WordPress users find the best hosts for their sites. However, if your host has not received reports in the last 25 revisions, we encourage you to check back with them.
NOTE: This last link, maybe we can adapt it and include it into our test Handbook page.
