The game is almost complete, however I'm facing collision detection issues so it might take some extra time.

Also, what power ups should the game have? (don't go too crazy, I want the game to be simple)

I''m back with a lot of Ideas so I am just going to spill most of them and let you choose the ones that are most fitting.
Sticky - sticks to the paddle that can be released with a
extra ball - every time this power up is collected a new ball is added
x2 - temporary double points can stack
speed ball - this will speed up the ball to a point slow ball would also fit in this
jumbo paddle - x2 length can make it smaller
extra life - explains its self
hard ball - will go straight through bricks without bouncing off temporarally
50/50 - breaks half of all bricks on screen

I won't add the extra ball and sticky since it will require most of the code being remade from scratch to support multiple balls and it might also introduce some minor performance issues.

The rest sounds nice, I'll start working on that soon.
