Updates über OTA können von einem Webserver geladen werden. Siehe https://arduino-esp8266.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ota_updates/readme.html
Dazu braucht man (afaik):

einen Endpunkt, der die aktuelle Version zurückgibt
das Image (diese können bereits abgerufen werden. z.B. https://github.com/ProjektionTV/ProjektionFX/releases/latest/download/ProjektionFX_d1_mini_ESP8266.bin - siehe Readme)

Idee zur Umsetzung:

Github-Pages Seite generieren, in der die aktuelle Version (git Tag?) bereitgestellt wird
Einbauen in Quellcode

Zu klären:

in welchem "Format" muss die Version zurückgegeben werden?
