Requirements for auto-updating

As mentioned in this comment, it would be awesome to document how a package must be written to be auto-updateable.

Maybe also mention the relationship to this update mechanism.

For me, it is hard to understand how to make your package auto-updateable for nixpkgs in the "preferred way".

A package must be reachable via an attribute from the file one passes via -f (defaults to default.nix). nix-update does not use https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/maintainers/scripts/update.nix yet. Also this is planned in near future.

I agree. I am just not contend with the solutions that I found.
