GPUCompiler.jl is never going to be fully stable, yet the current 0.x regime prevents us from creating patch releases. For example, I recently wanted to backport #589 on top of v0.26.5, which is the latest version supporting LLVM.jl 7, but since we've already released v0.26.6 I can't squeeze in a patch release. To prevent this in the future, we should release 1.x and make sure only to bump dependencies in actual minor releases.
