Problem with -shell-escape and xelatex

I'm using the minted package and xelatex. I can't it get to use the -shell-escape flag.
On the top of my tex file the program is defined which it is using:

% !TeX program = xelatex

And I try to pass the -shell-escape flag in every manner written in https://github.com/James-Yu/LaTeX-Workshop/wiki/Compile#building-a-jnw-file. Can't get it to work. Can anybody help? Thanks

If your issue is with compiling a document (not having to do with finding the root file of a project), check first that you can compile manually.

With my default bash scripts the document is compiling and generating the pdf
