I’d say no—it might cause issues, so let’s apply it only to new configurations.

Do you think this change could also impact Zigbee2mqtt backups? For instance, if someone is using the old driver and moves to a new Gladys installation with the new driver, would it break the restore process?

I think it will broke the restore part (like @Mashto here https://community.gladysassistant.com/t/migration-vers-beelink-zigbee2mqtt-indisponible/9272). I will deep dive this point.
