Figma is closed source, propriety software.

It is not tailored for wireframing, but more for actual designs.

In order to allow any volunteer to help with wireframes, and in order to easily design wireframes to communicate new ideas and features, we need a wireframing tool with the least friction.

  • It should be easy to acquire.
  • Allowing anyone to create derivatives or build upon existing wireframes without the need of moderation or admin interference is preferred.
  • FLOSS has preference.
  • Web-based has preference, because it removes friction of installing software.
  • It does not need to allow (live) co-editing on the same file, download/import and edit is fine too.
  • It should be "easy enough" for new people to pick up.
  • It should be focused on wireframing: libraries, components, easy layout, re-use etc are crucial features. Not just "any drawing tool" is a good wireframing tool.
  • Non-digital (paper, pencil) is an option too.
