DIIP heavily relies on the OpenID4VC specifications (VCI/VP/SIOP). OID4VC is also adopted by the EUDI Wallet ARF but there is no detailed interop profile (like DIIP) defined yet by the EU. As a result several OID4VC based profiles, similar to DIIP, are popping up by organisations/communities that have already started to use the OID4VC specs. (within EU and rest of the world)
For instance:
OID4VC HAIP (High Assurance Interop Profile)
DIF JWT VC Presentation Profile (used f.i. by Microsoft Entra Verified ID and Ping Identity)
EBSI
Gaia-X
GAIN PoC
These profiles are very similar (but not the same, so no interop...) so it would be logical to see if we can reduce the amount of profiles or converge to a generic "base profile". Potentially adopted by the ARF in a later stage. Such convergence could lead to speeding up adoption, broader market reach for OID4VC compliant wallets/solutions, cross-border use cases and more efficient code re-use.
During IIW37 I have participated in discussions on closer collaboration and/or convergence of DIIP with one or more of the profiles.
Based on these discussion, Torsten Lodderstedt (co-author OID4VC specification) has drafted an initial overview of OID4VC profiles (incl DIIP) that show a lot of similarities. The table includes one column with a "proposed" profile, showing how a converged base profile may look like (for discussion). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s6REK5eNAb3GSElID0J02_TtbuI2Exd9z-CLdLx0emk/edit#gid=0
During the DIIP meetup#4 on 25-10 we also covered this topic. We agreed to further continue the discussion about pro's/cons and details of potential of changes in this discussion forum. Any thoughts/feedback on the table from Torsten already?
There is also a discord channel setup by the OpenWallet Foundation - OID4VC Due Diligence Taskforce.
This channel can be used to discuss details with representatives from other OID4VC profiles. This taskforce also has bi-weekly meetings (online). These are open meetings so anyone who's interested can join (some of the NL DIIP participants have already joined). https://discord.com/channels/1022962884864643214/1113475091435634708
