HTTP error status 500 on invalid publication date

In some cases, Europeana had invalid date formats in the date of publication metadata. The invalid values were accepted by B2SHARE during the submission of the metadata for the draft record. But when the draft is published, the API request for publishing fails with a general HTTP error. This is the example of a publish request and the returned error message:
