Ogilvie syndrome, also known as acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO), is a sudden and unexplained paralysis of your colon. Your colon acts like it's blocked or obstructed by something (pseudo-obstruction) but nothing is physically obstructing it. The problem is in your colon's motor system.

Seems like this disease should be classified by anatomy. Here is the current 'colonic disease' (DOID:5353) subtree:

I see 'colonic pseudo-obstruction' and 'intestinal pseudo-obstruction' in that tree. I wonder if those terms should be synonyms. Only one is defined. Also the parent of 'colonic pseudo-obstruction' lacks a definition. It seems a bit strange that 'intestinal pseudo-obstruction' is a child of 'colonic disease' given its name. Seems there may be a need for nomenclature and classification review here, as well as, the addition of Ogilvie syndrome.

MeSH defines Ogilvie syndrome as a subset of 'Colonic Pseudo-Obstruction' (MESH:D003112) as:

When this condition is acquired, acute, and coexisting with another medical condition (trauma, surgery, serious injuries or illness, or medication), it is called Ogilvie's syndrome.

Not that MeSH should be considered authoratitative at all.
