StateContainer ViewModel interaction

Hi could you please provide a more detailed description what to expect when using StateContainer.

MainPage

    <VerticalStackLayout toolkit:StateContainer.CurrentState="{Binding MyCurrentState}">

MainViewModel

Can you help me to understand why on button click, SelectedItem property, bound to Picker control, is reset (to null). My observation may be completely wrong but should we expect all TwoWay binding properties to be reset to default values in the ViewModel?
