Quick summary

When a Crowdsignal form submission, originally written in Chinese is in the Spam, after removing it from Spam will turn the Chinese into unreadable characters. Into unicode like this: u7814u7a76u767au8868uff08u611bu8b77u30fbu9069u6b63u98fcu990au30fbu793eu4f1au30fbu6559u80b2uff09

Steps to reproduce

  1. Set up a CS form added and make a submission in Chinese
  2. Move it Spam if it's not already there
  3. Mark it as non-spam and check the results

To see the text as we did before

📌 SCRUBBING : RESULT - Replicated / Could Not Replicate / Uncertain

  • Tested on Simple – Replicated
  • Tested on Atomic – Replicated
  • Replicated outside Dotcom - Yes (With Jetpack Connected)

📌 FINDINGS/SCREENSHOTS/VIDEO

  • Based on the findings in the linked slack conversation, this is not an issue with Crowdsignal alone, but rather the Feedback dashboard itself
  • Moving the comment with non-alphanumeric characters to Trash and then recovering it via Restore does not cause the same issue - so this may be specific to the Akismet Spam process
