It's good that there is no crash, but a notification or toast should be shown as well.

it seems that toasts and such aren't showing until the sdcard comes back online... that's not very helpful. I've also observed this sometimes (or no message at all) when sdcard becomes unavailable post-startup, and this may be the same issue.

EDIT: non-startup issues are fixed. startup failure remains; not the same issue.
